So, there's been a lot of chatter lately about Disney's new production of Beauty and the Beast coming out soon (?). You know, the non-animated one with Emma Watson and that dude who was in the Hobbit, and Ian McKellan. That one.

There's been some fuss about the fact that the movie is going to include a gay character. *gasp!* Some people are ecstatic, others aren't super thrilled about the choices made, and some *ahem*bigots*ahem* are outright boycotting the movie. ANYhoo. I'm pretty sure every one of my followers on here at least have nothing against homosexual relationships, lol.

To get back to my point - Beauty and the Beast is my favorite [animated, classic] Disney movie. I'm not really sure how I feel about them 'remaking' it, but all the hubbub has been reminding me that there are some most excellent SPN/SPN RPF fics that have drawn inspiration from this great movie. I've listed the ones I know below. I highly recommend them all, so you should definitely read them, and show the authors (and one artist!) some love. And if you've got any similar recommendations, I'd love to hear of them!

Try the grey stuff, it's delicious!

Er, I mean, I hope you enjoy the recs! ♥

ALL TEH ARTS )
Day 21 - "First Kiss"
This drawing is outside of the cut because not only is it technically fanart, but it's fanart that comes with a fic rec! The fic this was inspired by (and I say 'inspired' because, if it was directly done for the fic, I would have actually been looking at the fic when I drew/colored it and made sure the details actually *matched* the fic (they don't, not exactly, lol)) is by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__, and I enjoy reading it often. So yeah. This image of bartender/drummer!Jensen and mechanic/artist!Jared is from the first scene of "Don't Go Mistaking Paradise" (which I just re-read last night, and you definitely should go [re]read now too, if you're at all a fan of J2 AU fic :)). And I hope you like my art, too, lol XD

That's all for this week, folks! I'll be back next Saturday to post even more. Thanks for taking a look! ♥

Hello! I figured, with so many exciting things happening in my fanart life right now, I should perhaps post a little update!

FIRST: I did end up claiming another fic for [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang! I have made much wonderful progress already making art for the short fic "Agora" by [livejournal.com profile] excoyote. It's an adorable story about collegeboy!Jensen discovering this tucked-away bookstore run by agoraphobic!Jared. Its super sweet - you should go give it a read, and know there is schmoopy art soon to be posted for it, right here, by me! :D (And, thanks to the magic of layers, though the story is only rated Mature, I'll have a little NSFW bonus art to share, too ;) So you can look forward to that as well!)

SECOND: The entire reason I really joined LiveJournal - - - [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang ART CLAIMS HAVE HAPPENED! AND PRETTY MUCH ALL MY HOPES AND DREAMS THAT POSSIBLY COULD HAVE COME TRUE DID! I had the incredible luck of snagging one of my absolute favorite authors and lovely friend [livejournal.com profile] akintay's fic, "The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World." I read it the day she sent it to me, and believe you me when I say, "If you like J2 fics, you're gonna love it!" I'm biased, of course, but it really is a wonderful fantasy J2 AU, with tons of visual appeal for an over-eager artist like me. I'm really going to be making so much art for it (I can't help it, it's what I was inspired to do) - that you all are going to think me a brown-nosing jerk. I swear, that's not my intention, I just got really excited about the idea I had, and it just so happened to require me making lots of art. So it's keeping me very, very busy, and I'm having a blast, not only in the shear amount of time spent arting, but also in collaborating with such a great author and friend. I'm so very lucky to have snagged her, especially as a BB!virgin!! XP

On the note of BB art, I've been working primarily in Corel Painter Essentials 5 (the software that came with my drawing tablet, without which none of this would be anywhere near as easy), when before I had stuck pretty close to GIMP. Today, thanks to my friend [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold practically forcing me to look at some tutorials, I *finally* figured out layers in Corel, and it's pretty much changed my entire life. It is a whole world of difference, and it's going to make many of my future projects SO much easier. I made some awesome progress tonight, and I'm really, really happy with how it's all coming along.

So yeah! That's my "quick" update for y'all. Jury is still out as to whether or not I'll participate in [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave; the desire is still there, but I might be too wiped after QB (should be posted by Tuesday, May 17), and BB (posting schedule starts June 8th!). We will have to see! Anyhoo, lots of art coming from me on this journal in the next month, and I'm really excited about it, and I hope you are too. My next post will probably be the start of it! I'll see you then! <3

So, [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala, [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold, and I recently completed our own little fic-writing challenge over on AO3. Inspired by this picture that Jared Padalecki posted to facebook back in January, we all wrote fics (completely autonomously) and then posted them under in a collection. It was very challenging, firstly because we're not used to being able to rely on each other for help during any part of the writing process. Secondly, and more specifically for me, it was challenging because this is the longest fic I've ever written. I have some in the works that might end up being just as long, but my longest complete fic up to this point had only been 2.6K words - this one is over 16K! I've gotta say, I'm pretty damn proud of the progress I've made as a writer through this challenge. Anyhoo, without further ado, here are the fics! Each one is great in its own respect, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. And be sure to send some love if you like 'em! We all thank you for reading! <3

Hellooooo LiveJournal! So, I've done a thing! Well...I'm working on doing a thing. Have you heard of this, this [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang? Look, look at Dean's pretty naked back...and then click the link and check it out.

Round 1: submit short stories until April 30th; create art before May 31st

*drools at the pretty*

*shakes herself out of it*

ANYhoo, I'm super excited about this for a lot of reasons. Probably the number one reason is that I've claimed a fic!, and I'm going to make some art!!! :D I'm lucky enough to get to draw something up for [livejournal.com profile] alycat's sexy J2 story inspired by the SPN episode "Just My Imagination". You can (and should!) check it out here ("Bring Me a Dream" - Jared is a glittery Zanna and it's awesome! :D).

Another reason I'm excited is that I went and submitted one of my own fics (see?) << That's just the prompt, but there's a link to the fic(s) there. I also recently cross-posted them here on LJ. It doesn't seem like many (any?) other fics are claimed yet, and I don't really expect much, but it'd be pretty damn cool if someone wanted to make art for one/both/either of my fics.

The final reason I'm excited (besides the inherent coolness of the collaboration that is a natural part of these sort of things) is because, all of the fics that are being submitted for art-claims, well, it's a built-in rec list! I've read a few already, and all of them have been great. If I get done with this first art claim fast enough, I'd be strongly tempted to claim another. Just sayin' ;) I'm really looking forward to seeing what all comes from this first round of the Quicky!Bang ^_^

My first encounter with [livejournal.com profile] akintay was her fic "I Leave My Heart in the Dust Where You Walk", posted here on LJ. It was also one of the very first J2 fics I'd read, and it remains one of my very favorites to this day. I was *so* ecstatic when I found her on AO3 too (since, as a reader, that format was much more user-friendly feeling to me) - especially since it meant I now had so many more of her fics to discover (because, again, I did not understand LJ AT ALL, lol). And now, here I am, getting the absolute privilege to occasionally beta for her. This fic is the most recent one I had the pleasure of editing, and you all really should check it out. Also with some lovely artwork by [livejournal.com profile] vilabelle :)
