Title: Artwork for Good Porches Make Good Neighbors
Author: zubeneschamali / zubenfic
Artist: dancing_adrift (yup, that’s me!)
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: PG (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5, pens/old Sharpie & scratch paper

Artist's Notes: This came about thanks to my Twitter TL being filled with awesome people. Zuben often lets us know when it's an interesting "National [Holi]day", and August 8th was "National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day". That's just begging to have fic written about it, right? Thanks to a sort of self-feeding loop, there's now fic AND art. I'll regal you with more of the tale below, but first, you should really go read the fic!

Summary: Jensen's getting more and more aggravated at his neighbor. Can't the guy take a hint? Jensen simply doesn’t need any of the man's zucchini.

More about how this all came about below the cut!

Title: Artwork for Breaking the Ice
Author: ashtraythief
Artist: dancing_adrift (yup, that’s me!)
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: PG-13 (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5, blood sweat & tears
Artist's Notes: Created as part of the 2017 SPN_J2_BigBang challenge. (My 2nd year!)

Summary: Jared has been harboring a crush on Jensen, the prince from the far north, ever since he was fourteen, so when his parents announce that they’ve chosen Jensen as his husband, Jared couldn’t be happier. But when Jensen arrives in Scayen, Jared realizes that there’s more to him than meets the eye — and even more that Jensen doesn’t want Jared to see. But it shouldn’t take much more than Jared’s sunny charm to melt Jensen’s icy facade, right? Except it isn’t so easy dealing with cultural differences and misunderstandings; sometimes it takes a lot of food, some good friends’ advice, a little kitten, and even a bit of magic to overcome a rocky start.

I know y’all are here to see some art - there’s A LOT below the cut, and you can see it all as you’re reading the fic, too, (which you should do anyway) - but I really need to thank some people first, because this wouldn’t have happened without them.

Jen (gluedwithgold) - I literally would not have been able to do this if not for you. You know all that you did, and I am eternally grateful. I love you!! And many thanks also to our Sammie (non_tiembo_mala) for being there every step of the way. I love you too!

ASH (ashtraythief) - omg, my amazing author. I’ve loved your fics for as long as I’ve known them, and now I got this INCREDIBLE opportunity to collaborate with you… fucking dream come true. We’ve talked about this. If you don’t know how much I love and admire you by now, then clearly I haven’t been irl-schmoopy enough ;) Would love to work with you again, absolutely any time, my dear. You kick ass :)

Anna (whispered_story) - my amazing author from last year and my friend and cheerleader ever since. Thank you, meine Schoene, for your everlasting enthusiasm and encouragement. Ich liebe dich :)

And, as ever, thank you to Wendy for running this challenge (so glad you do what you do!!), and thank you to all my fandom friends for the continued love and support.

So, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am DONE creating art for this year's Big Bang. ONE DAY before posting! I started and finished TWO pieces today, and I'm pretty damn psyched about it, considering how god-awful the last two days had been for arting :-/

ANYhoo, I figured I ought to do some sort of test post before I started attempting to put together my art masterpost (which is likely to be a MONSTER, ftr). So, assuming I do this correctly, please enjoy whatever random old art I put below the cut.

Dreamwidth does have cuts, right???

I am sitting here laughing at myself; I was so excited to make the move from LJ to DW after LJ changed its Terms of Service, and I saw how welcoming DW was... and then I've been sooooo absent. To be fair, I haven't posted anything on LJ either, just like I've said I wasn't going to. HOWEVER, since not every LJ user migrated to DW, I have still had some interacting there. Mainly, that means doing stuff for the upcoming SPN_J2_Big_Bang!

This is my second year participating in this Big Bang as an artist. Last year I collaborated with my good friend Anna (akintay/whispered_story) on the first part of her fantastic "The Dizzy Heights" series. This year, I'm super psyched to be working with the incredible ashtraythief, a longtime favorite author and now an awesome partner.

When I'm not working on art for BB (two pieces done so far, and plenty to go before our July 5th posting date!) or beta-ing fic for friends, I've decided that I want to learn German, so I've been working on that. Duolingo has been an amazing teacher/app. I'm really excited about how well it's been going! (Part of my reason for wanting to learn this particular language? Both the authors I mentioned above are German, and I talk to them both nearly every day; it only makes sense that I should know at least some of their language when they're so fluent in mine, right? lol)

Anyhoo, that's just a little update from me. I look forward to sharing in July with you all the art that I'll have made to go with Ash's fantastic J2 story. I can't wait for you guys to experience it too! Hope y'all are having an awesome week. :-*

This is it, guys! My first post from my shiny new Dreamwidth journal (which I keep wanting to call Dreamweaver, lol; thanks, decade-old web design classes XP). Pull up a beanbag chair and a fluffy blanket - there's snacks and drinks in the corner - and feel free to turn the music to whatever tunes you like.

I feel like I'm one of very few people who are actually excited to move here from LJ, but everything I've read about this website, from its policies to updates from its owners, makes me feel like this is a space where I can really feel at home. I'd only been on LJ for a little over a year when the TOS change happened, so it wasn't too big a deal to make the move, but it's a move I feel better and better about the longer I'm here. I just hope that any of my fellow LJ ex-pats will remain active here so we can work on recovering some of the community that we may have lost by switching to this new site.

Anyhoo, this is just a post to say "Hi!" and "I'm happy to be here, and I'm glad you are too!". From this post on, all content will be original to Dreamwidth; I don't intend to continue posting to LJ, though I may keep my account there active for a while yet until I see how the move will affect certain things like challenges that I'd previously signed up for. I do apologize if any of my imported posts have broken images or links; I'd rather spend my time creating new content than fixing the old, but I'm happy to fix anything by request if you just send a comment my way.

With that, please forgive any dust as it settles, and welcome. I hope you enjoy your visit, and maybe even stick around and stay with me for a while :) ♥

So, there's been a lot of chatter lately about Disney's new production of Beauty and the Beast coming out soon (?). You know, the non-animated one with Emma Watson and that dude who was in the Hobbit, and Ian McKellan. That one.

There's been some fuss about the fact that the movie is going to include a gay character. *gasp!* Some people are ecstatic, others aren't super thrilled about the choices made, and some *ahem*bigots*ahem* are outright boycotting the movie. ANYhoo. I'm pretty sure every one of my followers on here at least have nothing against homosexual relationships, lol.

To get back to my point - Beauty and the Beast is my favorite [animated, classic] Disney movie. I'm not really sure how I feel about them 'remaking' it, but all the hubbub has been reminding me that there are some most excellent SPN/SPN RPF fics that have drawn inspiration from this great movie. I've listed the ones I know below. I highly recommend them all, so you should definitely read them, and show the authors (and one artist!) some love. And if you've got any similar recommendations, I'd love to hear of them!

Try the grey stuff, it's delicious!

Er, I mean, I hope you enjoy the recs! ♥

Another week has come and gone, and October is just flying by!

In case you've missed them, you can see the rest of this month's drawings here:
#Inktober - WEEK ONE!
#Inktober - WEEK TWO!

Or, follow me on twitter and see them as I post them daily :)

Anyhoo, please enjoy this week's doodles! ♥
Day 21 - "First Kiss"
This drawing is outside of the cut because not only is it technically fanart, but it's fanart that comes with a fic rec! The fic this was inspired by (and I say 'inspired' because, if it was directly done for the fic, I would have actually been looking at the fic when I drew/colored it and made sure the details actually *matched* the fic (they don't, not exactly, lol)) is by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__, and I enjoy reading it often. So yeah. This image of bartender/drummer!Jensen and mechanic/artist!Jared is from the first scene of "Don't Go Mistaking Paradise" (which I just re-read last night, and you definitely should go [re]read now too, if you're at all a fan of J2 AU fic :)). And I hope you like my art, too, lol XD

That's all for this week, folks! I'll be back next Saturday to post even more. Thanks for taking a look! ♥

So, here we go! Second episode of the twelfth season of Supernatural. My twitter TL seemed to be VERY split on its feelings about this episode. I overall enjoyed it. There are some things specifically I'd like to discuss, which I will talk about after. But first, here are my [highly emotional] notes! ;)
Because live tweeting is hard! )
dancing_adrift: (Default)
Hello, my lovely LiveJournal friends!

I'm bored. So I... made a meme? Is that something one can just do? Well, I'm gonna give it a go. It's only seven questions long (I'll post them with my answers first and then a blank version at the end if you want to play), so if you're a bit bored too, we can entertain each other! :)

1. How long have you been on LiveJournal?
Technically I've been on LJ since my first year of college (2006) as part of one of my freshmen orientation classes, but that was a totally different journal (for which I no longer remember any login information, so it's just floating in the internet abyss somewhere). For my current journal, I've been here nearly a year now! (I joined November 2015.)

2. How did you come up with your online name(s)? Does it have any special meaning?
Again harking back to my freshman year of college, there was this one random line that sort of just popped into my head: 'Dancing adrift, the moments are filled with illogical bliss.' I don't know where it came from or what inspired it, but it felt like it pretty accurately described me and my life, so it stuck. I've been Dancing_Adrift in most online capacities ever since.

3. Why did you join LJ?
I joined very specifically so that I could participate as an artist in the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. I ended up participating in a couple other challenges before that one, but that was what finally motivated me to sign up.

4. What do you like about LJ? What keeps you active here?
Absolutely the fandom - the writing/arting challenges, the community, the collaboration. So, you guys :) ♥

5. Do you remember what made you add me as a friend? If so, what was it?
Well, I didn't have to add myself, so... But I'll answer this for anyone who comments below with their own answers! :)

6. Where in the world do you live? (Feel free to be as specific/unspecific as you'd like, lol. I just like seeing how far spread my online friends are :))
I live in the lovely city of Duluth, Minnesota, on the shores of the Great Lake of Lake Superior, in the USA :)

7. Tell me one random/happy/good thing about your day! :)
Who would have thought this'd be the hardest question? Lol. And I came up with it!! Um...
OH! I ordered Jared's wine from Nocking Point! Supernatural (and specifically Jared) and wine [bottles] meet? THIS WAS SPECIFICALLY CREATED JUST FOR ME, I SWEAR. There was absolutely no question that I had to have it, so I ordered the two pack. I'm so freaking excited. And I'm even looking forward to trying the wine itself XP Also, pretty cool that part of the proceeds go toward's Stephen Amell's 'F%ck Cancer' organization. All around an awesome no-brainer.

So yeah, that's it! If you'd like to participate in my silly little meme, you can copy/paste the blank questions (in the scroll-box below) either into the comments here, or in your own journal. I do hope to see answers from at least a few of you so we can all kill boredom together (and maybe get to know each other a little bit better :))! Hope you all are having wonderful days. ♥

P.S HUGE THANKS to [livejournal.com profile] akintay for the coding to make the neat box with the scrollable html for copy/pasting (which I see in challenge claims instructions posts all the time). Thanks for being awesome! ;)

Another week gone by, another week of daily doodles! Remember that you can see new drawings first if you follow me on twitter, as I do post all doodles there daily :)

As this first one could sort of count as fanart (it's meant to be J2), I'll leave it above the cut. Hope you enjoy all the rest of my drawings too! Thanks for checking them out at least ^_^ ♥

Day 8 - "Fall Fairies"
This was drawn in honor of [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold's birthday, and it came from her prompt (something along the lines of "idk, fairies? Maybe fall? Ooh! Fall fairies!). I did 'cheat' a little on this one (outlined in pencil first); even so, ballpoint pen and not-so-fine-tipped Sharpies that bleed make for very frustrating tools. :sigh: I do enjoy the FallFairy!J2 concept though, so maybe I'll recreate this digitally someday ;)

And that concludes another week of arting from me! I hope you all have wonderful weekends, and I'll be back again next week with more! ♥

Hi there, LJ! So, this is the first new season of Supernatural where I'm going to be on Live Journal for the full season! I'm excited to see how that effects the whole 'watching live' experience for me. Hopefully it will be good.

Anyhoo, those of you who follow me on twitter may already know this, but here's a brief run-down for those of you who don't know:

When I watch a brand new episode of Supernatural, I don't live tweet. Instead, I take notes. Hand-written notes. I then post those notes to twitter as a sort of live-tweet replacement, lol. Anyhoo, I figured this might be a good place to share too. I'd really love if they'd generate some discussion. Twitter usually moves too fast for tweeters to do much more than fave them or, if I'm lucky, give them a retweet. If I'm really lucky, someone (or even someONES) will actually read them XP Anyway, I'd love to hear your reactions to my reactions, or to talk with you about any of the points I bring up in my notes.

So yeah, without further ado... MY FAVORITE SHOW IS *BACK*, BABY, and it STILL KICKS ASS. So please, enjoy my thoughts/notes/reactions to Episode One, Season TWELVE, Supernatural's 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.

A quick notes on the notes: these will contain much swearing, possibly some spoilers (though they'll usually probably be fairly vague), lots of ♥s and squee, probably a fair amount of J2 & S/D objectifying, and the occasional, deeply regrettable spelling error. And sometimes illegible writing. Just fyi ;)

NOTES (possible spoilers) )
dancing_adrift: (Default)
It all started with a journal... a wedding present from someone who doesn't really know me that well, and therefore thought that I would use a "My Favorite Moment of the Day" journal [for its intended purpose]. Heh. Yeah, no. Never let it be said that I'm not a bit of an ass, lol.

Anyhoo, I've decided to participate in Inktober! I post these daily to my twitter, but I've decided to post weekly summaries here, too, as suggested by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams, who is also creating some fantastic drawings for this month-long 'challenge'. There's a ton of awesome art coming out of this, and I hope you enjoy my small contribution! :)
And there you have it! My first week of Inktober drawings. I've already drawn and posted Day Eight (another birthday drawing, for [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold!), but you won't see it on LJ until next week ;) Until then, I'll see you on twitter (I hope!) :) ♥

First of all, I'm pretty sure the title for this post is from 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'; seems pretty appropriate, given that [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas assignments are going out today. *squee!*

In a deviation from the norm, I wanted to just write a plain ol' post - not an update on my projects, not a posting of art or fic, but a simple, regular blog post. And it's going to be mainly mush?

"Why mush?" you may ask. Well, I don't really know. I'm just feeling kind of schmoopy lately. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but I love everyone in this bar, ya know? I can't really wrap my mind around just how welcoming the SPNFamily is, as a whole, and especially the LJ part of it. Yeah, I know a lot of you over on twitter, too (which is still my home-base for fandom), but LJ is just so *chill* and *accepting*, and I just wanted to let y'all know that I think you rock.

I know I teased a bit at maybe posting some wedding pics, and I'm still considering it, definitely. We'll have to see how bored I get at work, and how motivated I am to continue working on my [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema instead (which I desperately need to do, but I have to find the time as well as the motivation; last night I worked on our wedding Thank You cards rather than write, so... time still well spent, but I do need to kick myself in the butt if I'm going to get that finished by my posting date).

So. Yeah. I love you guys, that's pretty much it. Thanks for accepting my friendship on here, or whatever it's called, lol. Thanks for making fandom a fun, creative, welcoming space for me. :)

'Til next time,
♥ Amanda
