How It All Started
If you follow either Anna or I for our creative works, you know that we absolutely have nothing going on ever. (That was sarcasm, ftr. We always seem to have almost too much on our plates!) But still... Sometimes you just need to create something for the fun of it, apart from the structured fandom challenges, and sometimes it's even more fun to do it with a friend. So, here we are!
We did a lot of brainstorming and tossing around of ideas and eventually settled on a non-au masquerade prompt. It appealed both from a story and an art standpoint, and wasn't really like anything either of us had done before. I definitely had art ideas before the fic existed, but Anna, amazing wordsmith that she is, still managed to crank this fic out before I had even thought about dusting off my art tablet. BUT! There really isn't much more to tell of how this collab came about, so let's get to the rest of the art! (Which, if you've already read the fic, you've already seen, but now you get to see it with my rambling thoughts, also!)
MOAR ART

I think it's pretty obvious that if you're going to illustrate a fic about a masquerade, you're almost obligated to draw the characters in their costumes (or, in this case, their masks). Jared was the first that I drew, based, of course, off Anna's descriptions in the fic:
Initially I'd wanted this to be a larger piece, but it just was NOT working, so I cropped it down and I'm happy with how it turned out. Funny story: I made the background with the idea of a hotel ballroom wallpaper in mind... and then later saw some pics of J2 from the Comic Con newsroom (pretty sure that's where they were, at least), and that wallpaper was suuuuper similar to mine. Huh, I wonder where I subconsciously got my inspiration from? Lol.
There was a point where I thought Jared might be all I managed to draw (I did mention that I always seem to have a lot going on, right? lol), but then I sat down to turn the Jared piece into the header banner...and there wasn't enough room for words? So then Jensen happened.
Jensen's mask is also based directly off description from the fic:
(Uh, duh, Jensen, of course it looks "kinda" hot. You are never any less than varying levels of hot.)

For the divider, I used Photoshop to edit Jensen and Jared's masks (mostly because there are still some functions that I either don't know how to use in Corel...or maybe they just don't exist there? I'm still unsure).
Anyhoo, that's about all I've got for art thoughts. It is always a pleasure to work with Anna on anything. I hope you guys all have read and enjoyed the fic and made sure to leave her lots of love! It's super hot and sweet and lovely. A fantastic hit for our addictions to J2 ;)
Thank you as always for sticking with me! I hope you've enjoyed the art (and the thoughts).

Jared didn't go for subtlety. His mask is beige, or maybe soft pink, the top corners lined with feathers of the same color. It stands out against his tan skin and dark hair, and god, he looks beautiful.
Up close, he can see that Jared's mask is light pink with silver glittery swirls along the edges.
Initially I'd wanted this to be a larger piece, but it just was NOT working, so I cropped it down and I'm happy with how it turned out. Jensen's mask is also based directly off description from the fic:
There's a black mask trimmed with golden embellishments covering part of his face and he isn't sure whether to feel silly or admit that it looks kinda hot.

Date: 2019-09-22 04:39 pm (UTC)AND THE ART IS SO PRETTY. I instantly fell in love with the Jared piece. It's so perfect and him and pretty. I love how sweet and soft he looks and that blush on his face. You always make him look so stunning (I mean, he is stunning but you know what I mean). And the banner is so gorgeous. You always get our boys so right.
Thank you for working with me again, Amanda. As always, it's been amazing!
