*tap tap tap*...is this thing on?

*yells out into the terrifying abyss* "HELLO, LIVE JOURNAL!"
I haveno barely any idea how to act in here, so please bear with me. I probably won't be very active, because will probably be more active than I'd thought; LJ has been pretty damn welcoming so far :) I'm pretty happy with the set-up I've got going between twitter and AO3, but I kind of really wanted to try my hand at submitting some art for a Big Bang, so I had to make my account official in order to do that. I think that's the first logical step at least...
So anyway, here I am. All my profile info is straight from twitter (because it seemed like the most comfortable way to dip my toes into the big, scary LJ, by logging in from that account),so take it for what you will (I added a bit; guess I can step out of my twitter shell after all ;)). To update it a bit [more]: I love Supernatural; I am a fairly recent fan (I started watching on Netflix a few months before season 10 first aired), but I am neck-deep in fandom now and I love that, too.
As I mentioned, I'm also on AO3. Mainly, I spend my time there reading, but I also beta for a few friends (mainly non_tiembo_mala, gluedwithgold, and sometimes whispered_story - all amazing authors; definitely check them out if you don't already know them) and occasionally post fic of my own.
I also like to draw/paint/sketch/whatever, but I rarely do in the interest of doing those other things. But I like to take opportunities when I can to flex those skills, try to keep them from getting too rusty. (For an example, check out the drawing I did for non_tiembo_mala's "Upon A Painted Ocean", here. You should also definitely read the story, because it's SO GOOD.) Thus, my motivation for joining, like, officially joining, LJ - to (I hope, if all goes well) participate as an artist contributor in the 2016 Big Bang. I'm going to go sign up now, so wish me luck!! (I'm gonna need it!)
Here's to you, Live Journal. Please be gentle with me - I'm new. ;)
Love,
Amanda aka @Dancing_Adrift

Date: 2016-03-27 05:12 pm (UTC)Have fun, and good luck, with the Big Bang! I've never done one because I write so slow, but the people who do are amazing!
Mostly, enjoy exploring!

Date: 2016-03-28 03:12 am (UTC)Ahh, thank you!! I'm actually quite liking it here. The communities are what I really think interests me the most. I'm excited to play around. Thankfully I won't be writing for the Big Bang - I'm a super slow writer too!! Though I am currently working on several fics that I'll cross-post here when I eventually finish them ^_^ You should try one of the fic prompt challenges maybe, like spn_masquerade, where there aren't fic length requirements so, in theory, even slow writers can contribute in time ;) Perhaps someday I'll get to that point myself! :)

Date: 2016-03-29 02:33 pm (UTC)I joined a drabble community once, but I'm afraid I have commitment issues when it comes to writing anything bigger! I'll check out

Date: 2016-03-29 03:21 pm (UTC)As for commitment issues, I find that being accountable to another person, or a deadline, is super helpful in motivating me to write. I'm sure there's got to be a community with a challenge out there somewhere that you could have fun with! :)

Date: 2016-03-29 04:05 pm (UTC)It may be sadder than I thought it was at the time, looking at it now. Hmm.
That's my problem, though! All to often I will disappoint someone (or someones) so I probably do better to just go at my own pace even if it takes me a year to write a medium-sized story. I'd like to be able to join in on more communal writing exercises, if only my brain would cooperate!
Probably I should look for ones with no deadlines, and then have fun, I'm realizing. :P

Date: 2016-03-29 04:33 pm (UTC)I started an SG1 fic once; it was intended to be Sam/Jack (it feels so weird writing that as a ship name and not as, like, Sam [Winchester] slash someone, lol), but I never got very far. I'd like to finish it someday, but I think I'd have to do a rewatch or something, get me out of the SPN headspace and back into the SG1 one.
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] actually started an SPN/SG1 crossover that I every so often BEG her to finish, but she's working on so many other fics with those wrascally Winchesters and their RPF counterparts...well, I can't really complain as long as she's writing something ;) Same goes for you, missy - just keep writing! *does her best to take her own advice, too*

Date: 2016-03-29 10:17 pm (UTC)Haha yes and then there is LotR Sam and don't even get me started on all the Johns in different fandoms! So ridiculous. Who invented this system?
I will completely applaud any efforts you want to put into finishing! But yeah, it's such a weird feeling when you realize you've fallen out of a fandom you used to be super into.
... Or any efforts towards getting your friend to, for that matter! Is it someone I know? *chinhands* (haha psst unlike Twitter you can actually edit posts here, btw. ETA: I guess I mean you can edit comments until someone replies to them. Whoops!)
Halp! I should be writing right now! Exciting stuff in the works!

Date: 2016-03-28 03:41 am (UTC)Ah, thank you! I'm a bit terrified, as I have no "go to" art mediums, so who knows what the results will be. But first I'll have to figure out the whole "claiming a story" thing! XP Will you be participating in the Big Bang? I'd especially be interested in any artist recs, since I'll need examples to follow, but I'll take some favorite community recs too, absolutely! Thanks! ^_^

All amazing artists. :)
