Title: Artwork for The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World
(Also on AO3)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akintay (whispered_story on AO3)
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] dancing_adrift
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: G (for art; fic is NC-17)

Artist's Notes: Created as part of the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge - the whole reason I fully joined LJ in the first place!

THE DIZZY HEIGHTS OF THIS DREAMED OF WORLD | AO3

Summary: Jared is left on the Padaleckis' doorstep as a baby with no clues as to who he is or where he's come from. As he grows up with a life full of love and support from his adoptive family, he never loses the dreams of some far off place with green hills and meadows, a sprawling forest and gurgling stream. It's a beautiful and peaceful there, and every night Jared has his dream landscape all to himself—until he starts hearing a voice calling for him.
When a stranger on a motorcycle shows up on campus a few months later, Jared suddenly has a new reality to consider. Not only is he fae and betrothed to this man—who introduces himself as Jensen—Jared's also in mortal danger. Torn between wanting to keep living a normal life and figuring out who he really is, Jared reluctantly agrees to let Jensen prepare him for the danger up ahead and unearth his own fae powers. As time goes on, he starts to feel more and more drawn to Jensen and he comes to realize that they share a bond that reaches well beyond an arranged marriage.

There's more art (MUCH more) below, but it's probably better enjoyed as part of the fic which you can (and absolutely should!) read HERE or on AO3.

You've already seen the header banner above. That was the last large piece I completed before 'posting day'. I also drew up some quick section headers and a divider which I'll share below. However, the main chunk of my art for this fic... well, there's a lot of it, so I'm giving it its own post. Again - this art is probably best enjoyed as part of the fic, but if you'd like to see the drawings by themselves, just follow the link below! :)

FIFTY SHADES OF FAE

BANNERS and DIVIDER

A final word:
THANK YOUS!

First and foremost - my author, [livejournal.com profile] akintay. I could not have asked for a more perfect person to be paired with for my first Big Bang. Seriously, it's been an honor. And it's been a lot of fun working with you on fic in a slightly different way than our usual of writer/beta ;) Let's do it again sometime, eh? But maybe with less insanity on my part ;)

Huge thanks also go to [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala and [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold for being my 'art betas' every step of the way. I may have blatantly ignored some of your finer suggestions in the end (sorry!) but your input, concrit, and feedback - not to mention enthusiasm and undying encouragement! - were absolutely invaluable. You ladies rock. (A third art beta, my fiancé, should also be thanked, but he's not on LJ, so... XP)

I'd be very remiss not to thank the LJ community as a whole. This challenge may be the reason I joined LJ, but you guys are the reason I stuck around. I don't follow very many of you (relatively speaking - I am still a newb, after all), but, in some way, each and every one of you have been an important part of me getting here, via your ever helpful, encouraging, and inspiring presence and/or friendship. So, thanks guys. Can't wait to see where we go next!

Finally, one more thank you to [livejournal.com profile] wendy for continuing to kick ass at running this comm. We couldn't do it without you! Thanks for making it so easy even for first-timers like me :)

OH, ONE MORE THING

For kicks and giggles, here is an alternative banner (a much simpler, but still pretty one that I created before the one we ended up using). Enjoy!

HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I'M THE LUCKIEST BB WRITER THIS YEAR? Doesn't matter that I haven't seen anything else yet, nothing could beat the insane amount of gorgeous art you created for this fic. I honestly have no words. You've spoiled me rotten, babe!

I love love love every single part. The banner is so gorgeous. I just really love the concept so much, the juxtaposition of the boys and the colors and the way you played with the title and made it part of the art. It's perfect.

And then there are all the dividers. I. Just. Can't. They're so detailed and lovingly done. When you first mentioned your ideas and showed me the Harry Potter art, I was stupidly excited but the art turned out more amazing than I ever could have imagined...I really thought you'd do tiny, quick pieces and not THIS. The character portraits are unbelievably beautiful--and as much as I love J2, I think the one of Jeff is my favorite. I kind of have a soft spot for the other pieces, though, because you picked out tiny details and it's kinda like seeing the fic through your art and I'm so damn flattered. (the pizza still cracks me up btw). All of this is so beautiful and if my fic is even half as good as your art makes it look then I couldn't be happier. Also, I really love that you did all of this in black and white, there's something so charming and kinda nostalgic about black and white art like this.

So, thank you. I feel like saying thank you isn't enough, but I don't know what else to say. Working with you has been awesome and I'd do it again any time, because the art is gorgeous and you're even more wonderful. Thank you, thank you, thank you and I love you ♥

"I feel like saying thank you isn't enough, but I don't know what else to say." << you mean besides all the other super wonderful stuff you just said? lol. I LOVE YOU TOO. Thank you for embracing my insanity and celebrating every little drawn manifestation of it with me. I'm soooooo happy that you love the art (and tickled pink that the pizza amuses you still - that's 99% of the reason I decided to draw that piece in the first place XP). You're right, the b&w does give it a certain appeal - though seeing Jensen and his pop of color... such a beautiful world as the one you created here deserves more color than what it got here. I imagine there's plenty we can do about that though ;) *isn't done with this world yet, no ma'am* ♥♥♥

Oh wow, look at all this, such a cool (and HUGE:) set of artwork! The story-banner is wonderful with the contrast between colour and black and white, the lettering is just perfect and I love how the flowers and background connect the two pictures. I also adore the style of the drawings <3

And THEN, an immense collection of additional art. The concept is great (indeed kind of crazy with 50 parts, but definitely a great idea :-p) and the execution is very well done. \o/
Your drawings are getting better and more impressive with each project you do and you blew me away with all of these!
For lack of time I'm saving a good look at that artpost for the weekend; you can expect me back at your Fifty Shades Of Fae post later with more squee (OMG, YOU DREW JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *flails*)

P.S. A technical note on your posts. My friendslist (or feed as it is now called) was filled up with your wonderful pictures, which is pretty too look at, but seriously overwhelming. From the look of your journal, I'm guessing you haven't quite figured out yet how to put (parts of) your post behind an lj-cut. You can read more about that here (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/75.html); it makes your journal a little more organized and makes sure you don't picspam your flist;)
(If you need any help, let me know!)

Oh gosh, I hadn't even thought about cuts! Thank you so much for mentioning that!! OMG, picspam indeed! hahaha. Hopefully my posts are a bit less overwhelming now, lol. If the cuts didn't work for some reason, please let me know!

Thank you for the lovely comment! I've noticed my own improvements, but it's pretty awesome to know that others can see them too. Thank you so much ♥

I am glad you've enjoyed what you've already seen, and I look forward to any and all future squee! ♥

I'm totally in love with your art. Not only is the amount of work you've put into it jaw-dropping but it is also so, so beautiful.
If I didn't already wanted to read the fic, your art would convince me to. I really hope you aren't done in this world as you've said. ;-)
Thank you for creating this gorgeousness. And I really love the alternative banner also!

Thank you so much! I am so happy that my art makes you that much more eager to read the fic - which is totally wonderful, no matter what [livejournal.com profile] akintay says! ;) I would love to make more art for this world yet, though I *may* take a bit of a break first. It's been a busy month ;) Hope you love the fic as much as I do! :)

I love this artwork soo much

Still so proud of what you've accomplished here, darlin'! 💜

And don't ever apologize for not taking crit suggestions! They are just that - suggestions - and you're never obligated to use them, just to hear them! That's what constructive criticism is all about! It's how we learn and grow and develop our skills.

Much love chica! 💜

So much art, and all of it absolutely gorgeous!!! I especially loved your bad boy Jensen on his motorbike..smoking hot! And your drawing off Jeff too is stunning <3 And your title banner is beautiful, the contrast of the black and white and colour is clever and the drawings are amazing.
Great job <3

hehehe, thanks! The motorbike pic was based off one of Zac Efron which, imo, was also pretty smokin', but no comparison to our Jensen ;) Thank you so much for the lovely comment; I am glad you enjoyed the art! ♥

Amanda! You have been busy creating all these beautiful arts! How?!? How can you do all of these? uuhbbhhhuiehafba
I love what you do with the banner especially. Love the color, love the atmosphere. Love the simplicity of it. All the line art (pencil?) are so nice too. I love Sandy and Gen :) And oh Jeff is a hottie! I always get so nervous if I have to do arts this clear. I have to cover them up with color and texture of some sort haha but the rawness of it is very charming!
I have to try this medium sometimes. Coral Painter? I'm a dinosaur. I either go with traditional tool like water color or ,if I'm feeling like challenging myself, I will just grab my bamboo and launch photoshop lol
Congrats! These are seriously awesome!

Ahhh, thank you so much, Ann! :)
How? Corel Painter Essentials 5, lol, the art program that came with my lovely new art tablet, with the included stylus/pencil thingy. XP Okay, smart-assery aside, yeah. I just drew - a lot - as often as I could until we had to post. It was pretty great, actually, to have this project to focus on so soon after getting my tablet, because it really forced me to use it a lot and therefore the learning happened pretty quickly. It's amazing what sort of tricks you'll figure out when you've given yourself the goal of creating fifty pieces of art in about half has many days.
Yes - whatever art I did, it all started with the 'cover pencil' tool. I played a little bit with the 'fill' tool and a blender brush (which I didn't continue using for very long), but the majority is with 1-2px pencil lines. Eventually I started playing with higher pixelage - like, eventually, like for Gen, I began to use varying shades of gray with a size 10-20px pencil to create the shading of faces without the hard lines. And LAYERS ARE MY FRIENDS. The first handful of doodles were made without layers, and were therefore MUCH more frustrating to draw, lol.
It's funny how you get nervous and use color/texture to 'cover up' - I'm kind of the opposite! Well, maybe not so much with digital art anymore, because it's so easy to try different things and just get rid of them if you don't like it, but definitely with traditional art I feel like I'd rather leave a pencil drawing in b&w because I always feel like I mess it up when I add color, lol.
Lol - if you have Photoshop, I'd probably stick with using that, since I suspect it's probably equal to or even better than Corel. What's a bamboo though? Is that a fancy stylus for an art tablet? *is so new to the world of digital art tools, it's almost painful* It is definitely my intention to play more with other styles in Corel, and watercolor is one I for sure would like to play with more. How pretty would the fae realm be in watercolors??? *swoons*
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed all the art ♥

Truly amazing artwork and what a collection you drew for an equally incredible story.
Both the top banner and the bottom one do make you believe that you are staring at the Fae kingdom.
Love the black and white pictures too, each one is so detailed and perfectly drawn.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for commenting! :) I am so glad you enjoyed the art. And yeah - the fae realm is just so pretty... my fingers itch to draw/paint more of it than I did here. And I LOVE color, and the fae realm must just be bursting with gorgeous color... so yeah. Definitely want to return to that :) Thanks again! :D
