Artist's Notes: My 2017 entry for the 8th round of the LJ spn_cinema challenge. Last year I wrote fic for Legally Blonde (which you can read here!) and I created this art to directly accompany that. My recommendation would be to read the fic first, if you haven’t already, so that you can enjoy the art in context (I’ve added it at the end of the fic). BUT, if you’d just like to see the art itself (along with my usual musings about process and all that jazz), continue on to the art below! ♥
Summary: “God, that costume though. What would probably have looked ridiculous on any lesser man was absolutely breathtaking – not to mention completely mouthwatering – on Jensen.”
First and foremost, Legally Blonde is one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't remember how the idea came about, but the idea of Jensen in Elle's bunny costume pretty much inspired the entire fic I wrote last year. So when this year's cinema challenge came around, I thought, "Self, you have a modicum of talent. Why don't you make art of Jensen in that outfit?" So that's exactly what I signed up to do when I claimed this movie for the second year in a row.
It's kind of funny how things turn out though. I have a couple half-finished drawings of Jensen wearing the bunny lingerie... But they weren't really doing Jensen justice? Like the summary said, he was supposed to be taking our breath away, making our mouths water... and that just wasn't happening. So I put it off, and put it off... And then the week of my posting date arrived and I still hadn't made any progress and I started freaking out. I had so little time left to create a piece that I could be happy with!
I'm not really sure what made me think of the aesthetic idea, but I'm so glad I did, because I think it does a better job of conveying a sexier feel. It allowed me to zoom in on some of the sexier aspects of Jensen and his costume (while also giving Jared a little space to shine as well). One of the largest struggles I had back when I was still considering drawing Jensen in his entirety was that I wanted to be sure to highlight certain areas (like the bunny tail, for example), but the compositions I was trying were proving to be very difficult for achieving that. So really, the aesthetic was kind of the perfect solution and I'm very happy with it.
My "usual" method to making my fanart drawings is to start with picture references and then draw over them and modify them accordingly. So, while I'd rather not display my kind of ugly half drawings of Jensen before I switched to the aesthetic style, here is the base aesthetic I put together to model my drawing off.
Obviously I stayed pretty true to the original idea, but I did replace the hearts with the hand-drawn words "Legally Yours." Since I planned on placing it at the very end of the fic, which is where we find out that Jared plans to propose to Jensen, I thought it was kind of a fitting choice of words, while also being a fun play on the movie title.
So, really, this art is much more made to suit my own fic, and less to fit the original movie itself, but since the inspiration is all the same, I think it works. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (and are willing to accept it as a suitable replacement for a full, unbroken image of Jensen in lingerie, lol ;)).
