Title: "Fifty Shades of Fae" (Artwork for The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akintay (whispered_story on AO3)
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: G (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5
Artist's Note: Created as part of the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge.

One of the aspects of this story that appealed to me right away was the Harry Potter vibes I got from the 'Artist's Summary' when it came time for artists to claim fic. A baby deposited on a doorstep to be cared for by an adoptive family? A child that grows up only to have a stranger reveal that they aren't quite as normal as they'd always thought? Yeah, that says HP to me, lol. And as soon as I read the first line of the fic - "On July 31st, in the early hours of the morning, a willow basket is placed on the porch of the Padaleckis' home." - and the date just *happened* to be Harry's birthday, I couldn't help but take inspiration from one of my favorite book series.

Title: Artwork for The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World
(Also on AO3)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akintay (whispered_story on AO3)
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] dancing_adrift
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: G (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5
Artist's Notes: Created as part of the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge - the whole reason I fully joined LJ in the first place!

Summary: Jared is left on the Padaleckis' doorstep as a baby with no clues as to who he is or where he's come from. As he grows up with a life full of love and support from his adoptive family, he never loses the dreams of some far off place with green hills and meadows, a sprawling forest and gurgling stream. It's a beautiful and peaceful there, and every night Jared has his dream landscape all to himself—until he starts hearing a voice calling for him.
When a stranger on a motorcycle shows up on campus a few months later, Jared suddenly has a new reality to consider. Not only is he fae and betrothed to this man—who introduces himself as Jensen—Jared's also in mortal danger. Torn between wanting to keep living a normal life and figuring out who he really is, Jared reluctantly agrees to let Jensen prepare him for the danger up ahead and unearth his own fae powers. As time goes on, he starts to feel more and more drawn to Jensen and he comes to realize that they share a bond that reaches well beyond an arranged marriage.

Hello, LiveJournal! :) Feels like it's been a while. That's possibly due in part to the fact that I have been keeping insanely busy, both in real life and with making art for my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang claim. We can probably write this off on account of this being my first Big Bang, but I may have seriously over-extended myself. Seriously, I am insane for the amount of art I am determined to do. I'm really pleased with how most of it's turned out so far, but I'm barely even half-way done and I have nine days before we post. I've already met the 'requirement' for BB posting, but I haven't met my *own*. I guess we'll just see how it goes, and cross that bridge when we come to it. My author (*waves at [livejournal.com profile] akintay*) has been more than amazing - so incredibly lucky I got her - but I'm still super afraid that I won't finish and it'll be this big letdown, lol. But I got a bunch of work done yesterday, and I'm going to keep plugging away at it right up until the final hour if I have to.

In semi-related news, I finally broke down and signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave. I figure it'll be good to keep myself actively arting after BB is over, and this seems like a pretty chill way to do so. (On an unrelated note, does anyone else have the issue where LJ turns the word 'figure' - f i g u r e - into the word 'div' when it's viewed on the mobile app? Oddest problem I've ever seen, lol.) Anyhoo, as most of my BB art has been grayscale, I'm looking forward to creating something summery and *colorful* for the Heatwave comm/challenge thing. Also super psyched to see what other people create :) I've been seeing a lot of meanttobe art and fic postings lately, which is awesome also! Communities and challenges are definitely the reason to be on LJ, and I'm glad to be here :)

Talk to y'all again soon! :) <3

Hello! I figured, with so many exciting things happening in my fanart life right now, I should perhaps post a little update!

FIRST: I did end up claiming another fic for [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang! I have made much wonderful progress already making art for the short fic "Agora" by [livejournal.com profile] excoyote. It's an adorable story about collegeboy!Jensen discovering this tucked-away bookstore run by agoraphobic!Jared. Its super sweet - you should go give it a read, and know there is schmoopy art soon to be posted for it, right here, by me! :D (And, thanks to the magic of layers, though the story is only rated Mature, I'll have a little NSFW bonus art to share, too ;) So you can look forward to that as well!)

SECOND: The entire reason I really joined LiveJournal - - - [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang ART CLAIMS HAVE HAPPENED! AND PRETTY MUCH ALL MY HOPES AND DREAMS THAT POSSIBLY COULD HAVE COME TRUE DID! I had the incredible luck of snagging one of my absolute favorite authors and lovely friend [livejournal.com profile] akintay's fic, "The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World." I read it the day she sent it to me, and believe you me when I say, "If you like J2 fics, you're gonna love it!" I'm biased, of course, but it really is a wonderful fantasy J2 AU, with tons of visual appeal for an over-eager artist like me. I'm really going to be making so much art for it (I can't help it, it's what I was inspired to do) - that you all are going to think me a brown-nosing jerk. I swear, that's not my intention, I just got really excited about the idea I had, and it just so happened to require me making lots of art. So it's keeping me very, very busy, and I'm having a blast, not only in the shear amount of time spent arting, but also in collaborating with such a great author and friend. I'm so very lucky to have snagged her, especially as a BB!virgin!! XP

On the note of BB art, I've been working primarily in Corel Painter Essentials 5 (the software that came with my drawing tablet, without which none of this would be anywhere near as easy), when before I had stuck pretty close to GIMP. Today, thanks to my friend [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold practically forcing me to look at some tutorials, I *finally* figured out layers in Corel, and it's pretty much changed my entire life. It is a whole world of difference, and it's going to make many of my future projects SO much easier. I made some awesome progress tonight, and I'm really, really happy with how it's all coming along.

So yeah! That's my "quick" update for y'all. Jury is still out as to whether or not I'll participate in [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave; the desire is still there, but I might be too wiped after QB (should be posted by Tuesday, May 17), and BB (posting schedule starts June 8th!). We will have to see! Anyhoo, lots of art coming from me on this journal in the next month, and I'm really excited about it, and I hope you are too. My next post will probably be the start of it! I'll see you then! <3

*yells out into the terrifying abyss* "HELLO, LIVE JOURNAL!"

I have no barely any idea how to act in here, so please bear with me. I probably won't be very active, because will probably be more active than I'd thought; LJ has been pretty damn welcoming so far :) I'm pretty happy with the set-up I've got going between twitter and AO3, but I kind of really wanted to try my hand at submitting some art for a Big Bang, so I had to make my account official in order to do that. I think that's the first logical step at least...

So anyway, here I am. All my profile info is straight from twitter (because it seemed like the most comfortable way to dip my toes into the big, scary LJ, by logging in from that account), so take it for what you will (I added a bit; guess I can step out of my twitter shell after all ;)). To update it a bit [more]: I love Supernatural; I am a fairly recent fan (I started watching on Netflix a few months before season 10 first aired), but I am neck-deep in fandom now and I love that, too.

As I mentioned, I'm also on AO3. Mainly, I spend my time there reading, but I also beta for a few friends (mainly non_tiembo_mala, gluedwithgold, and sometimes whispered_story - all amazing authors; definitely check them out if you don't already know them) and occasionally post fic of my own.

I also like to draw/paint/sketch/whatever, but I rarely do in the interest of doing those other things. But I like to take opportunities when I can to flex those skills, try to keep them from getting too rusty. (For an example, check out the drawing I did for non_tiembo_mala's "Upon A Painted Ocean", here. You should also definitely read the story, because it's SO GOOD.) Thus, my motivation for joining, like, officially joining, LJ - to (I hope, if all goes well) participate as an artist contributor in the 2016 Big Bang. I'm going to go sign up now, so wish me luck!! (I'm gonna need it!)

Here's to you, Live Journal. Please be gentle with me - I'm new. ;)

Amanda aka @Dancing_Adrift

[edited March 28th to keep info current while maintaining this as a suitable introductory post to stick at the top of my journal] :)
