So, I'm discovering that, lately, my approach to LJ is just stopping by occasionally to create list-posts of everything I have on my fandom plate at the moment. Which, is a lot, lol.

FIRST though - I AM NOW MARRIED. MY WEDDING IS DONE, YAY! Haha. It was an awesome day, darn near perfect, and it was all around wonderful. I hope to share some pics and maybe some little stories from it soon, but I'll make that its own post. For now, have a FANDOM PROJECT UPDATE.

So yeah! I'm keeping myself crazy busy as usual! But I'm having so much fun collaborating with fellow fans, and embracing my creative side, so I don't regret one bit of it :) We should have the rest of our wedding pics by the end of today, so hopefully I'll share some of those with you this weekend! Hope y'all are having a great day! ♥

I'm entirely amused that I used to do these sort of questionnaire things on facebook all the time in college when I was busy procrastinating... And now that I'm getting more active on LiveJournal, I find that they're a thing here, too. So, because I'm stuck not-at-home and feel like killing some time, let's have some fun with '41 Questions'.

41 Pointless Questions XP )
And oh my, would you look at the time? Time to go HOME! :D Where I will hopefully make some progress on my RBB art and NOT just get sucked into more fanfic reading!! O.O Wish me luck.

Okay, I'm totally blaming (and crediting) [livejournal.com profile] akintay - and all the rest of you beautiful people - for my LJ pretty much exploding lately. To all my new LJ friends (which, since I'm so new myself, means pretty much all of you), a quick disclaimer: I love you all; however, I will not be able to stay as caught up with all of your lovely posts as I would like, for varying reasons. I will continue to comment and interact as much as I can, because I truly want to be a part of this amazing LJ community, but if I'm ever a bit quiet, it's going to be because I'm either insanely busy or feeling overwhelmed at the moment. That being said, if you're willing to attempt building a friendship approximately 140 characters at a time, come follow me on twitter. Send me a tweet about how we know each other ("Hey, I'm so-and-so over on LJ! We both love Stargate!", for example) and I'll follow you back. Odd as it sounds, Twitter is a much more manageable platform for me? I'll still be on here as much as possible, but I'll be on Twitter more. So yeah, I'll see y'all wherever!

OKAY. Now that that's out of the way, here are the two latest things I'm pretty psyched about.

First, this community! Two of my very favorite writer friends and some of their other writer friends have created [livejournal.com profile] spn_writing, and I cannot wait to see what all comes from it. I am a fledgling writer myself (you can check out my attempts so far at my AO3 if you'd like), and I'm always looking for ways to improve, and to better my whole process of telling a story. There are well-established writers, newbie writers, writer-hopefuls, and writing consumers (yay readers!) all coming together to discuss writing within the context of Supernatural/SPN RPF fanfic, and I COULD NOT BE MORE ECSTATIC for all the awesome creative possibilities! Click the banner, designed by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] expectative, to check it out for yourself and maybe join us! :D

Supernatural Writing Circle

Second, as some of you may know, I recently attended MinnCon and it was SO AMAZING. I haven't had time yet to write down my experiences (and I maybe never will; life happens, ya know?), but if you'd like to get some idea of what my weekend was like, go check out [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala's MinnCon post (complete with our amazing photo ops!!). She and I were practically attached at the hip, so her story very closely resembles mine.

Okay, that's all for my very elongated 'drive-by' posting, lol. I gotta go shower now - I've got my own bridal shower to attend in... a little over an hour, and it'd probably be a good idea to not be smelly and gross for it, since, though it's *called* a shower, the party will not actually play any part in helping me get clean. OMG. Okay, I'm going to stop trying to be funny now.

I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR - thank you for reading! ♥♥♥

"I'm Big Kenny!" "And I'm John Rich."
"And we're Big & Rich!"

Okay, if you know what the hell I'm rambling about/quoting up there, then we're pretty much automatically friends, yeah? Actually, if you're reading this we're probably already friends. Derr.

ANYHOO, my usual oddness aside, y'all should check this out if you haven't already! I know I'm new to LJ, so I can't possibly remember 'the good ol' days', but anything that gets people interacting and talking about common interests is awesome in my book. The friendship meme below starts us off with our common love of Supernatural, and then goes from there! Let me know if you leave a comment so I can check out your answers! Mine are already there - and if there's anything I said that you'd like to hear more of, just ask! :)

P.S. Hello to the new friends I've already made today, thanks to this meme. I'm happy we're here together! :)

Sooooooo. Hi. It's me again. Little organizational post to help Manda keep her life straight. Also, an update on things to look forward to from this blog! :D

AUGUST 6 - Claims Day for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema! I have a fic idea for one of my favorite movies I'd like to try claiming. I've already written the opening 'scene', so there's that at least. Might also try claiming art for same film? Not sure about that yet. Might be a bit tight schedule-wise, what with wedding planning and all that jazz. [Drafts: Sept. 5; Posting: Oct. 3]

AUGUST 11 - First day in Minneapolis with [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala, [livejournal.com profile] alyndra, and other lovely SPNFamily for MINNCON!!! OMG. SUPES EXCITES.

Tonight, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams posted a *gorgeous* (and hella sexy & nsfw) piece of art that she created (intended for [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave). First, obviously, you should go check it out, because it really is awesome. Second, she included a bunch of progress shots that *I* thought were pretty neat to see. I always love seeing how other artists go about creating their works. Anyhoo, since I actually have them, I thought I'd post some WIP pictures from my own Heatwave submission, "Toes in the Sand". I hope you enjoy them! ^_^

Oh gosh, just look at this lovely collection of art and fic, so gorgeously gathered in one pretty post. The [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang popped my LJ comm/challenge cherry (how appropriate, no?), and it was fantastic preparation for my first [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, which I just got to post today! (Check it out here!) I've had three opportunities now to work with three amazing authors, and I'm so looking forward to what LJ has next in store! :) Anyhoo, go check out the awesome art and fic below! ♥

I love you all so much!

Title: "Fifty Shades of Fae" (Artwork for The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akintay (whispered_story on AO3)
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: G (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5
Artist's Note: Created as part of the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge.

One of the aspects of this story that appealed to me right away was the Harry Potter vibes I got from the 'Artist's Summary' when it came time for artists to claim fic. A baby deposited on a doorstep to be cared for by an adoptive family? A child that grows up only to have a stranger reveal that they aren't quite as normal as they'd always thought? Yeah, that says HP to me, lol. And as soon as I read the first line of the fic - "On July 31st, in the early hours of the morning, a willow basket is placed on the porch of the Padaleckis' home." - and the date just *happened* to be Harry's birthday, I couldn't help but take inspiration from one of my favorite book series.

Title: Artwork for The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World
(Also on AO3)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akintay (whispered_story on AO3)
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] dancing_adrift
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: G (for art; fic is NC-17)
Medium: Corel Painter Essentials 5
Artist's Notes: Created as part of the 2016 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge - the whole reason I fully joined LJ in the first place!

Summary: Jared is left on the Padaleckis' doorstep as a baby with no clues as to who he is or where he's come from. As he grows up with a life full of love and support from his adoptive family, he never loses the dreams of some far off place with green hills and meadows, a sprawling forest and gurgling stream. It's a beautiful and peaceful there, and every night Jared has his dream landscape all to himself—until he starts hearing a voice calling for him.
When a stranger on a motorcycle shows up on campus a few months later, Jared suddenly has a new reality to consider. Not only is he fae and betrothed to this man—who introduces himself as Jensen—Jared's also in mortal danger. Torn between wanting to keep living a normal life and figuring out who he really is, Jared reluctantly agrees to let Jensen prepare him for the danger up ahead and unearth his own fae powers. As time goes on, he starts to feel more and more drawn to Jensen and he comes to realize that they share a bond that reaches well beyond an arranged marriage.

Hello, LiveJournal! :) Feels like it's been a while. That's possibly due in part to the fact that I have been keeping insanely busy, both in real life and with making art for my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang claim. We can probably write this off on account of this being my first Big Bang, but I may have seriously over-extended myself. Seriously, I am insane for the amount of art I am determined to do. I'm really pleased with how most of it's turned out so far, but I'm barely even half-way done and I have nine days before we post. I've already met the 'requirement' for BB posting, but I haven't met my *own*. I guess we'll just see how it goes, and cross that bridge when we come to it. My author (*waves at [livejournal.com profile] akintay*) has been more than amazing - so incredibly lucky I got her - but I'm still super afraid that I won't finish and it'll be this big letdown, lol. But I got a bunch of work done yesterday, and I'm going to keep plugging away at it right up until the final hour if I have to.

In semi-related news, I finally broke down and signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave. I figure it'll be good to keep myself actively arting after BB is over, and this seems like a pretty chill way to do so. (On an unrelated note, does anyone else have the issue where LJ turns the word 'figure' - f i g u r e - into the word 'div' when it's viewed on the mobile app? Oddest problem I've ever seen, lol.) Anyhoo, as most of my BB art has been grayscale, I'm looking forward to creating something summery and *colorful* for the Heatwave comm/challenge thing. Also super psyched to see what other people create :) I've been seeing a lot of meanttobe art and fic postings lately, which is awesome also! Communities and challenges are definitely the reason to be on LJ, and I'm glad to be here :)

Talk to y'all again soon! :) <3

Tonight I managed to complete another chunk of art for my Big Bang project (about time, too. Yay!). However, before I finally got to the point of being productive, I did a few quick, fun pieces that I figured would be fun to share on here. Enjoy! :)

Rainbow Treescape

Priest!Sam - by request for [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold

The first piece was just me playing around with colors and brushes; the second two were both quick tracings of photographs with a little color thrown in. They were fast and fun, and I'm happy with the results. Hoping to get much more work done on Big Bang this weekend, so hopefully these three pictures got the 'draw random stuff' itch out of my system for a bit ;)

Thanks as always for reading and viewing and commenting and encouraging! I keep arting because of people like y'all. <3

Hello! I figured, with so many exciting things happening in my fanart life right now, I should perhaps post a little update!

FIRST: I did end up claiming another fic for [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang! I have made much wonderful progress already making art for the short fic "Agora" by [livejournal.com profile] excoyote. It's an adorable story about collegeboy!Jensen discovering this tucked-away bookstore run by agoraphobic!Jared. Its super sweet - you should go give it a read, and know there is schmoopy art soon to be posted for it, right here, by me! :D (And, thanks to the magic of layers, though the story is only rated Mature, I'll have a little NSFW bonus art to share, too ;) So you can look forward to that as well!)

SECOND: The entire reason I really joined LiveJournal - - - [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang ART CLAIMS HAVE HAPPENED! AND PRETTY MUCH ALL MY HOPES AND DREAMS THAT POSSIBLY COULD HAVE COME TRUE DID! I had the incredible luck of snagging one of my absolute favorite authors and lovely friend [livejournal.com profile] akintay's fic, "The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World." I read it the day she sent it to me, and believe you me when I say, "If you like J2 fics, you're gonna love it!" I'm biased, of course, but it really is a wonderful fantasy J2 AU, with tons of visual appeal for an over-eager artist like me. I'm really going to be making so much art for it (I can't help it, it's what I was inspired to do) - that you all are going to think me a brown-nosing jerk. I swear, that's not my intention, I just got really excited about the idea I had, and it just so happened to require me making lots of art. So it's keeping me very, very busy, and I'm having a blast, not only in the shear amount of time spent arting, but also in collaborating with such a great author and friend. I'm so very lucky to have snagged her, especially as a BB!virgin!! XP

On the note of BB art, I've been working primarily in Corel Painter Essentials 5 (the software that came with my drawing tablet, without which none of this would be anywhere near as easy), when before I had stuck pretty close to GIMP. Today, thanks to my friend [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold practically forcing me to look at some tutorials, I *finally* figured out layers in Corel, and it's pretty much changed my entire life. It is a whole world of difference, and it's going to make many of my future projects SO much easier. I made some awesome progress tonight, and I'm really, really happy with how it's all coming along.

So yeah! That's my "quick" update for y'all. Jury is still out as to whether or not I'll participate in [livejournal.com profile] spn_heatwave; the desire is still there, but I might be too wiped after QB (should be posted by Tuesday, May 17), and BB (posting schedule starts June 8th!). We will have to see! Anyhoo, lots of art coming from me on this journal in the next month, and I'm really excited about it, and I hope you are too. My next post will probably be the start of it! I'll see you then! <3
dancing_adrift: (Default)
Played a little more with my new art tablet tonight. This piece is based off the image that is currently serving as inspiration for a fanfic that [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold is writing (that I CANNOT WAIT for her to finish - goth!Jared and punk!Jensen college AU! *squee!!!*). I'm still relying on tracing to help me get the lines of Jensen's pretty face "right," but I had fun playing with colors and blending tools and whatnot myself. One of these days I'll finally get around to working on my second piece for the [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang... but until then, I'm sure I'll keep having fun practicing ;) Enjoy! :)

So, [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala, [livejournal.com profile] gluedwithgold, and I recently completed our own little fic-writing challenge over on AO3. Inspired by this picture that Jared Padalecki posted to facebook back in January, we all wrote fics (completely autonomously) and then posted them under in a collection. It was very challenging, firstly because we're not used to being able to rely on each other for help during any part of the writing process. Secondly, and more specifically for me, it was challenging because this is the longest fic I've ever written. I have some in the works that might end up being just as long, but my longest complete fic up to this point had only been 2.6K words - this one is over 16K! I've gotta say, I'm pretty damn proud of the progress I've made as a writer through this challenge. Anyhoo, without further ado, here are the fics! Each one is great in its own respect, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. And be sure to send some love if you like 'em! We all thank you for reading! <3
